 2016 Preview

R.A. Hubbard finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year R.A. Hubbard just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 1A region eight with a 2-4 region record.

R.A. Hubbard took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2007. The Chiefs lost as many games as in any season since 2007. The defense allowed a team record 351 points last season.

R.A. Hubbard was inconsistent offensively last year and that needs to pick up if the Chiefs want to be competitive. They only averaged 14.9 points a game.

R.A. Hubbard struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 35.1 points a game.

Since 2010, R.A. Hubbard has gone a combined 44-27. Their 62.0% winning percentage ranks 15th in Class 1A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, R.A. Hubbard has gone a combined 199-100. Their 67.0% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class 1A and 44th in the AHSAA. The Chiefs have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time.

The Chiefs are led by head coach Nicholas Vinson who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 44-27 over the past six seasons at R.A. Hubbard. Under his direction the Chiefs have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Vinson.

Coach Vinson's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 44-27 (62.0%).

The R.A. Hubbard Chiefs will play in Class 1A region seven during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Chiefs remain in 1A but move from region eight over to region seven.

With a little luck and some improvement, the Chiefs could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region seven this season. R.A. Hubbard came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year.

The Chiefs open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Cherokee on Thursday, August 18 at R.A. Hubbard Stadium. Last year the Cherokee Indians finished with an overall record of 4-5 and in fifth place in Class 2A region eight.

R.A. Hubbard and Cherokee have met a total of 16 times on the football field. The Chiefs have a 9-6-1 record against the Indians. They last met in 2015 with Cherokee winning by a score of 43-7.
